I know I might be dating myself when I say I remember the first 1G hard drives and how expensive they were. And thinking that we could never use all that storage. Seems like an eternity but in reality it’s probably only been about 12 years. Things have come a long way since then. 3 years ago when I bought my Mac Pro I equipped it with 2 TB of image storage plus another 500GB for document storage AND another 500GB applicaitons drive thinking it would be a while before I filled up all of that. WRONG!!!! A year after I added another TB bringing my count to 3 Terabytes for images. Well it didn’t take long to fill up all of that. With the acquisition of new cameras with larger file sizes I blazed through that. As well as filling a 3TB NAS for back up. Well I’ve been out of space for several months and have resorted to using portable drives for storage. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I just have a thing about keeping my files organized and all in the same place. So I finally broke down and bought a new 3TB drive that will be my main images drive. I’m going to migrate the 2TB drive that was my main images drive to be my auxiliary images drive. In addition I’m going to take the 1TB drive that was my aux images drive and move that to be the new document drive. That will give me a total of 6TB of storage. Woohoo! Let’s see how long that lasts. Now I just have to expand my back-up NAS. I don’t like the thought of having only one copy and no back-up. I used to keep 3 levels. Main image drive. Back-up image drive and then a secondary off line back-up. Then there was the DVD archives that I store in my safe. So I was protected against any catastrophe. Not so much any more and I’m really not comfortable with that. Because there is one thing I’ve learned over my years of dealing with data and that is BACK-UP YOUR DATA!!!!!
